How Mounjaro Works
Weekly injection that curbs your appetite.
Suppresses Appetite
Mounjaro contains tirzepatide, which helps regulate blood sugar and balance energy levels. This can reduce your appetite and curb cravings.
Slow gastric emptying
Each month, you’ll receive one pre-filled injection pen with 4 doses, to be taken once a week.
Feel fuller for longer

What is Mounjaro?
Mounjaro is a medication that contains the active ingredient tirzepatide.
It is used for weight loss and weight management in adults. Mounjaro works by regulating your appetite, helping you feel fuller and reducing hunger and food cravings. This can help you eat less and support weight reduction.
Who can take Mounjaro?
Mounjaro is used alongside a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity for weight loss and weight management in adults aged 18 and older who have:
- A BMI of 30 kg/m² or greater (obesity), or
- A BMI of at least 27 kg/m² but less than 30 kg/m² (overweight) and weight-related health issues (such as prediabetes, type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, abnormal blood fat levels, obstructive sleep apnea, or a history of heart attack, stroke, or blood vessel problems).
BMI (Body Mass Index) is a measure of your weight in relation to your height.
Who should not take Mounjaro?
Mounjaro should not be taken by individuals who meet any of the following criteria:
- You are pregnant, trying to conceive, or breastfeeding.
- You are under the age of 18.
- You take certain medications (our clinician will assess your suitability when you complete the online form).

- You have a history of pancreatitis.
- You have or have had an eating disorder (such as anorexia nervosa, bulimia, or binge eating disorder).
Mounjaro dosages
Every new patient, if approved by our clinicians, will begin with the lowest dosage (2.5mg) of Mounjaro for the first 4 weeks of treatment. After this, your dose will increase each month, as long as you are responding positively to the treatment.
Here is a month-by-month breakdown of the dosage increase:
- Month 1: 2.5mg
- Month 2: 5mg
- Month 3: 7.5mg
- Month 4: 10mg
- Month 5: 12.5mg
- Month 6: 15mg
The highest dosage is 15mg, and you will continue on this dosage for the remainder of your plan. Your dosage is not guaranteed and will be regularly assessed by your clinician throughout your treatment.
How often do I need to take Mounjaro?
You should take your medication once a week. It is recommended to inject your dose on the same day each week for consistency.
Where can I inject Mounjaro?
You can inject your weekly dosage in one of the following three areas:
- Thighs
- Abdomen, at least 5 cm away from your belly button
- Upper arm (we recommend using the back of your upper arm with assistance from another person)
Switching up your injection sites will help minimize discomfort as you continue your treatment.
How should I self-administer my medication?
You will self-inject Mounjaro under your skin, into the subcutaneous fat. The needle is small and may cause a slight pinprick sensation when administered.
Follow these instructions for a clean and safe injection:
- Wash your hands thoroughly with warm water and soap.
- Ensure the solution in your pen is colorless to slightly yellow.
- Wipe the red inner seal with a swab.
- Attach the needle and remove both needle caps carefully.
If the solution in your pen is cloudy or contains particles, do not administer the medication. Contact a member of the client care team to report the unusable solution.
Never reuse or share needles with others.
What happens if I miss a dose of Mounjaro?
Missed dose, 1-4 days after scheduled date:
You can take your missed dose any time within 1-4 days after your scheduled date, then continue with your plan as normal.
Missed dose, 4+ days after scheduled date:
If more than 4 days have passed since your last scheduled dose, skip the current week’s dose and continue as normal with the following week’s dose.
